If you want to make candles, you will need molds. Finding molds for candle making is not difficult but it can take a little thought and planning. You need to think what kind of mold you want and what shape of candles you want to make.

If you do want to make a candle, you need two things: wax and a wick. The wax provides fuel that keeps the wick burning in order to provide light. Candles can have more than one wick, and this is quite common if they are being used in large pillar candles. You can find candle molds on the internet but they can be expensive. If you are just starting the candle making process you may want to make your first few candles out of household items.

If you are using any container, the main thing is to make sure it will not leak. You want to make sure that the wax will not ooze out around the bottom or side of the mold as the wax cools. You also need to make sure that when the candle is completely cooled, you are able to free it from the mold easily and in a way that does not scratch or mar the outside.

Molds can be made out of many different items you may have around the house. You can use cardboard tubes such as chip cans, frozen juice cans, or juice or milk cartons. These are all excellent since they can be sealed to prevent the wax from escaping. They can also be easy to separate from the candle since they can be peeled away to free the candle.

More permanent containers such as resealing food containers will also work for candle making molds. You need to keep them separate and only use them for candle making after they have been used and you may find that very flimsy ones can warp when the hot wax is poured in them. Glass jars such as mason jars or pickle jars can make fun and funky candle molds and the candles can be burned in them as well.

If you like the idea of making candles you should know that finding molds is easy. Deciding the colors of candles you are making and what you want to make them out of is a whole other story.
