Using Binaural Beats in your Meditation can help you go “deeper”. Binaural Beats occur when your brain hears 2 different frequencies in each ear. For example, if your right ear hears 200 Hz, and your left ear hears 210 Hz, then essentially you brain is hearing 10 Hz. When you use Binaural Beats, you can control your brainwave frequencies. This is called entrainment.

The brain operates on four different frequencies. They are beta, alpha, theta and delta. Beta is the most active brainwave, whereas delta is the most inactive. Beta brainwaves are found when you are alert and actively thinking and doing. Theta brainwaves occur when you are in a more relaxed state, like day dreaming. Theta occurs when you are in a light sleep, dreaming, and during meditation. Delta is only found during the deepest sleep and during the deepest meditation.

The best way to use Binaural Beats in your meditation process is to use a few frequencies from each of the 4 stages. Starting at beta and work through to delta. This will help the brain progress deeper and deeper, in stages, and is usually the most successful method.

You can find Binaural Beats downloads throughout the Internet, or you can purchase meditation CDs that incorporate them. I recommend downloading some files online, so that you can create you own mixes.

Because Binaural Beats work by delivering a different frequency to each ear, you can not simply listen to them through regular speakers. You must use headphones in order for entrainment to occur. Studies have also shown that for people that have a history of seizures, Binaural Beats can increase their seizure activity. Therefore the use of them is not recommended for those individuals. It is also not recommended to use them on children, as they are more susceptible to seizures than adults.

Because the use of Binaural Beats is deemed safe for most individuals, the use of them could be a great tool allowing you to go deeper faster. I myself have had great results using them, not only for meditation, but for sleeping better. I also find that listening to alpha frequencies helps me when I need to brainstorm. Get creative, and see what Binaural Beats can do for you.
